This Kulhad Cup is a re-imagination of the classic and traditional terracotta chai cups found on the streets of Punjab. Śurū connected with South-Asian, UK Based ceramicist Tokes Sharif of STUDIO BRAE to deliver our own, brutalist version of a classic cup - inspired by the architecture of Le Corbusier's Chandigarh.
The clay body is a mixture of porcelain and stoneware, hand-thrown on a potters wheel and trimmed. The cups are then bisqued and polished, and the interior is glazed with a transparent gloss.
Leaving the exterior surface unglazed celebrates the depth and the little variations of the making processes. It also offers a tactile quality of the terracotta Kulhads these cups are inspired by.
We recommend using this cup with your favourite chai recipe or your morning coffee.
